What’s A Chop House?
The chop house tradition is about hearty eating, good company, fine wines and ales.
We’re often asked what a chop house is.
And what makes us a bit different?
To us a chop house isn’t a restaurant or a pub. It’s a meeting place with much more than just beers to drink. Like the coffee house, the alehouse, the boarding house & others, the chophouse is a British institution dating back to the origins of modern commercial trading in the sixteenth & seventeenth centuries.
Chop houses were originally places where businesses dined and conducted their affairs over hearty plates of traditionally cooked meats, frequently grilled and washed down with fine wines or well-kept local beers. No change there then.
